Ille-sur-Têt evacuated in turn, 10,000 people affected in total
The prefect of Pyrénées-Orientales ordered the evacuation of the town of Ille-sur-Têt on Sunday evening. The approximately 5,500 inhabitants of this commune are therefore added to the 5,000 residents of the Aspres massif whose evacuation had been announced two hours earlier, due to a renewed virulence of this fire fought by 700 firefighters.
The third stage of the Tour de France “adapted” and “without an audience”
The third stage of the Tour de France will take place this Monday but with adaptations and will have to take place “without an audience” in its French part, particularly at the finish, due to the mobilization of emergency services following a major fire in the Pyrénées-Orientales (south), announced the prefect.
“On French territory, the advertising caravan will not circulate. The system will be limited to the passage of only runners and vehicles essential to the organization of the event,” explained prefect Pierre Regnault de la Mothe at a press conference. He added that the public was “invited not to go near the route or to the finish site (in Les Angles, Editor’s note). That is to say, and I regret having to announce it, it will be – in France at least – a stage of the Tour de France without an audience.”
The fire in Gard fixed
The fire which broke out at midday on Sunday in Gard and which covered more than 540 hectares around Lédenon is still active but fixed, announced the prefecture of this department.
“The fire that started in Lédenon is now fixed but it is not extinguished. The fire is still active,” explained the prefecture in a press release, specifying that “the network of secondary roads is in the process of reopening.” This should also be the case for the A9, partially closed in both directions at interchanges 23 and 24 after the fire crossed the tracks, but later “in the evening”, said Vinci Autoroutes.
The fire started around 12:40 p.m. near a karting circuit which had to be evacuated and some 270 firefighters were mobilized, supported by seven Canadairs, two Dash planes and a heavy helicopter.
By the afternoon in Bezouce, about ten kilometers northeast of Nîmes, at least two homes had been affected by the flames and others were “threatened”, the prefecture had warned. Two cars were also set on fire. The authorities announced that 70 people had been evacuated and sheltered in the village hall.
