La Croix: We thought the construction of Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral was completed, but it never really stopped. What is the nature of the work you are announcing today? Why are they necessary?
Philippe Jost: We must first remember that we rebuilt, following the fire of 2019, the entire interior and upper parts of the cathedral (the roof, the spire, the walkway and the gargoyles which are closest to the roofs). But since the great restoration of the 19th century, only the western facade, only the one overlooking the square, had been renovated. We started with the apse and its 22 flying buttresses in 2025, then at the beginning of 2026 the sacristy – exteriors, sculpted decorations and roofing. This project must be completed at the end of 2028.
