What will happen on July 1?
The coronations of four new bishops for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X (FSSPX) will take place on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 in the morning. The ceremony will be held on the large lawn of the seminary of Écône (Switzerland), at the same place where Mgr Marcel Lefebvre (1905-1991), founder of this society of priests which was formed in opposition to the reforms of the Second Vatican Council, carried out four episcopal ordinations without the agreement of the Pope in 1988. It will bring together more than 15,000 faithful and around 1,300 priests, men and women religious. lefebvrists from all over the world, not counting around fifty journalists.
The decision was announced on February 2, 2026 by Italian Abbot Davide Pagliarani, current superior general of the SSPX. “Our bishops are getting older, and with the continued growth of the apostolate, they are no longer enough to respond to the demands of the faithful throughout the world,” he explained in an interview published on their site.
