
She surfs between festivals. After Cannes, where his film opened Critics’ Week, and before Annecy and Biarritz, Phuong Mai Nguyen had, in mid-June, some time to talk about his film, In Waves, and his journey, on a sunny Parisian café terrace. We could have imagined ourselves in the California depicted at the beginning of the film, as long as we had dressed the waiters as surfers and covered the melted bitumen with burning sand… The atmosphere of the interview was, however, less melancholy than this poignant love story struck by illness.
