At the end of this rainy season afternoon, an operatic air floats in the charged air of Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni. On the bank of the river which runs along the town of 60,000 inhabitants, a wooden cabin, a small traditional hut without walls, has been converted into a dance hall during a lull. Sometimes interrupted by the shrill chant of kiskadee birds, the piece, composed by Israeli choreographer Hofesh Shechter for a Paris Opera ballet, escapes from a speaker placed on the floor.
