Iran denounces “blatant violation” of agreement after US strikes
The start of a new gear? Iran estimated on Saturday June 27 that the American strikes the day before against its territory, on the southern coast of the country, constituted a “flagrant violation” of the memorandum of understanding concluded with the United States aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.
The Revolutionary Guards, Tehran’s ideological army, announced on Saturday that they had attacked American positions in the Gulf region, in retaliation for American strikes in Iran. “If the aggression is repeated, our response will be broader than that,” they warned.
The US military said it struck targets in Iran in response to an attack on a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz that it blamed on Tehran. Friday June 26, Donald Trump denounced a “stupid violation” of the ceasefire in force with Iran.
The United States and Iran signed the memorandum of understanding on Wednesday June 17 to end the war in the Middle East, first providing for a 60-day ceasefire. The control and evacuation of ships stuck in the maritime Strait of Hormuz remains at the heart of the battle between the two countries.
