What do we know about this double earthquake?

Venezuela was hit by two consecutive earthquakes late Wednesday, June 24, in the afternoon. The first tremor, of magnitude 7.2, occurred at 6:04 p.m. about 200 kilometers west of the capital Caracas, followed by an even stronger second, of magnitude 7.5, recorded 39 seconds later, 45 kilometers from the first epicenter. These earthquakes were felt as far away as neighboring Colombia, in the capital Bogota, although 1,000 km away as the crow flies. Subsequently, Venezuela experienced around twenty aftershocks, pushing part of the population to spend the night outside.
