Iran welcomes ‘America’s declaration of defeat’

The memorandum of understanding concluded between Iran and the United States to end the war is “America’s declaration of defeat,” said Wednesday, June 24, the head of the Iranian negotiating team, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

“The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding is not the result of pressure or coercion, but rather that of the resistance and determination of the courageous Iranian nation,” he assured. “This is why (this agreement) took on the value of a declaration of defeat for America,” underlined Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, adding that security in the Middle East must henceforth be ensured by the countries of the region.

Trump castigates symbolic resolution

Donald Trump denounced Tuesday evening a symbolic resolution adopted by the American Congress to order the withdrawal of American forces in the conflict against Iran, saying that it had pushed the Islamic Republic “on the ropes”.

“So, I have sent Iran to the ropes, ready to collapse (…) and the American Senate decides to organize an ill-timed and senseless vote on the War Powers Act,” said the American president on his Truth Social platform, while Washington and Tehran are negotiating for a lasting end to the conflict in the Middle East.

US Congress adopts resolution for troop withdrawal

The American Senate adopted a resolution on Tuesday to order the withdrawal of American forces in the conflict against Iran, a primarily symbolic setback for Donald Trump since the text will not have the force of law.

The resolution, already adopted by the House, was approved with 50 votes in favor and 48 against. Because of congressional rules, Donald Trump won’t even need to veto it. But this vote represents a snub for the Republican president, in the midst of negotiations with Iran, and while his party has a majority in both houses of Congress.

When the text passed the House at the beginning of the month, he criticized an “unpatriotic” vote on the part of the Democratic opposition and the four Republican elected officials who had joined them.
