Pathé has made a daring cinematographic bet with this diptych on General de Gaulle retracing, in the form of a grand spectacle, the adventure of Free France from the appeal of June 18 to the Liberation of Paris. A “French-style blockbuster” as conceived by its president, Jérôme Seydoux, in order to counter the drop in theater attendance in these post-Covid years. And yet, despite a red carpet launch during the last Cannes Film Festival and a rather favorable critical reception, the first part The Age of Iron, released on June 3, 2026, did not meet with the expected success.
