
Why announce a vote, when the country has been suffering elections since 2012?
In 2021, Libyans had already received their electoral cards in anticipation of a UN-sponsored vote, before the divisions that plague the country eventually took over. Libya, unstable since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011, remains torn between its two rival governments, that of Tripoli (west) and that of Benghazi (east) controlled by the family of Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
