The results of the night
Argentina – Austria (2-0): Argentina, reigning world champion, qualified for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup by dominating Austria 2-0 on Monday in Arlington, Texas, thanks to a record double from Lionel Messi.
The Argentine captain, already the author of a hat-trick against Algeria (3-0), is now the only top scorer in the history of the World Cup, with 18 goals, two lengths ahead of the German Miroslav Klose.
France – Iraq (3-0): After a two-hour half-time interruption due to the risk of thunderstorms, France qualified for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup by dominating Iraq 3-0 on Monday in Philadelphia, with a brace from Kylian Mbappé for his 100th selection.
Norway – Senegal (3-2): Norway qualified for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup by beating Senegal (3-2) Monday in East Rutherford (New Jersey) for the second day of Group I.
Thanks to Marcus Pedersen (43rd) and a double from Erling Haaland (48th, 58th), the Norwegians imitated France, victorious over Iraq (3-0), and the two teams will face each other on Friday for first place in the group.
Algeria – Jordan (2-1): Algeria overthrew and eliminated Jordan (2-1) thanks to two goals scored in the last twenty minutes in order to relaunch in Group J of the 2026 World Cup on Monday in Santa Clara near San Francisco.
Jordan, for its first World Cup, was launched towards an exploit thanks to Nizar Al-Rashdan (36th), but Algeria, long lacking in efficiency, was finally able to count on Nadhir Benbouali (69th) and Amine Gouiri (82nd), for a result which offered first place in the group to Argentina.
