British Transport Police said on Friday June 19 that they were responding to reports of a “collision” between two trains north of London, and emergency services said they were responding to the scene of the accident which reportedly left people injured, according to media reports.
“We are responding to reports of a collision involving two trains in the Bedford area,” transport police said on Platform X, referring to this market town located around 90 kilometers north of the British capital.
Unverified footage posted on social media shows what appears to be two East Midlands Railway (EMR) trains after they collided, one colliding with the other and passengers on the tracks. According to these images, both trains remained on the track.
“Emergency services are responding to an incident between London St Pacras and Leicester,” EMR said on X, without providing details.
The East of England Ambulance Service said on social media that it had sent “a lot of resources, including air” to the scene of a “major incident” south of Bedford. Emergency services were not immediately able to confirm reports from several media outlets that the collision had caused injuries.
