director Ryan Coogler has signed an exclusive development deal with Netflix. His company, Proximity Media, is entering into a partnership with the streaming giant to create series in the near future. He previously had this collaboration with Disney+.
Disney+
A special development in the streaming landscape: Ryan Coogler closes a deal with Netflix. The director (known for Black Panther (2018) in Sinners) previously had a long-term deal with Disney+ with his company Proximity Media, but this partnership came to an end after five years. Coogler’s production house made the series for this streaming service Ironheart (2025) in Eyes of Wakanda (2025).
Deal with Netflix
After five years, Coogler is taking a new direction when it comes to TV series. The new home for Proximity Media is no longer Disney+, but Netflix! The company, which Coogler founded with his wife Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian, has entered into an agreement with the streaming service to develop series. This means that we can also expect Coogler productions on Netflix in the long term.
Statement
“We started Proximity Media with a simple goal: to tell stories that revolve around events and bringing people closer to topics that are often overlooked,” Coogler said in a statement from Proximity Media. “As we continue to expand Proximity’s television business, we are excited to partner with Netflix, a company that has consistently demonstrated its commitment to original creators and storytelling.”
