In fact, the president of the world’s leading economic and military power is always, whatever his identity, the boss. But the whole question is what he does with this “hyperpower”, increasingly contested by the Chinese rival. Used improperly or at the wrong time, it can turn against its holder, shedding harsh light on their weaknesses.
