Within the franchise of The Blair Witch Project (1999), everyone is getting ready for a new reboot. However, lead actress Heather Donahue, now known as Rei Hance, has announced that she will not be part of the project. The actress stands firm and reveals good reasons for her decision.
Not a favorable contract
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are currently working on a new version of the horror film The Blair Witch Project. Because there is uncertainty among fans whether Donahue will be seen in the film or not, the actress decided to clarify via social media. Donahue states that she has not signed a new agreement. According to the actress, the contract contained provisions that she did not feel comfortable with, including agreements regarding the future use of her image, voice, restrictions on what she can and cannot say publicly and the compensation in return.
On without Donahue
The statement follows previous criticism from Donahue and her former co-stars Michael Williams and Joshua Leonard. The trio stated last year that they did not benefit sufficiently from the enormous success of the original film, while it grew into a worldwide cinema hit on a modest budget. They also called for more participation in future projects within the franchise. Despite the actress’s absence, the reboot will continue. The new film would revolve around a family who are confronted with mysterious events in a forest during a camping trip. Filming should start later this year.
