It is the culmination of ten years of work. This Friday, June 12, the European Pact on Migration and Asylum comes into force, a set of legislative texts adopted in May 2024 and aimed at overhauling the migration policy of the European Union (EU). A few days later, on June 17, the proposed regulation on returns aimed at facilitating expulsions will be put to a vote by MEPs. Together, these dates mark the beginning of the end of a decade of debates and negotiations to fundamentally reform EU policy on asylum and migration.
