
On July 27, 2016, the day after the assassination of Father Jacques Hamel, Pope Francis paid him a moving tribute. “This holy priest, who died at the very moment when he was offering the sacrifice of the whole Church, is a unique victim,” assured the Argentine pontiff on the plane that took him to Krakow for World Youth Day. Less than three months later, in October 2016, he authorized the opening of the beatification process of the French priest.
