Emmanuel Macron recognized on Wednesday June 10 in the Council of Ministers “obvious dysfunctions” in the Lyhanna affair, which raised the question of “confidence in our institutions” but called for waiting for the result of the inspections to react “in the light of the facts” and “without demagoguery”.
Expressing “the emotion of the Nation” and “the affection and solidarity with the family”, he considered that the affair raised “the question of confidence in our institutions”, according to government spokesperson Maud Bregeon.
“It is obvious that there were obvious dysfunctions. We must now understand what concerns individual responsibilities and systemic dysfunctions in all the public services involved,” added the Head of State.
However, he called for waiting for the result of the inspections on June 19 to act “methodically” and “strengthen everything that needs to be strengthened in light of the facts”. “We don’t respond to a tragedy with shouting. Haste and demagoguery are responses that are not up to the task,” he added.
If the recently tabled bill on child protection must “be modified, it is only in light of the facts”, judged Emmanuel Macron who did not allude to the bill desired by Parliament to deal comprehensively (“integrally”) with gender-based and sexual violence.
Maud Bregeon assured that “we will not sweep the dust under the carpet”. “If sanctions are necessary, they will be imposed. If the text of the law presented by the government needs to be amended, it will be amended,” she repeated. “No one can absolve themselves of their responsibilities and this also applies to the actors of the judicial institution. We are in a moment where corporatism has no place,” she added.
