Ari Aster has confirmed that he has written a prequel to his hit horror Hereditary (2018), but doubts whether the project will ever go into production. The director shared this during a Q&A at a special screening of the film.
Never the right time
According to Aster, the script has been finished for a while, but he emphasized that there are no concrete plans to actually adapt the project into a film. The main reason for this delay lies with the director himself. It never feels like the right time for him to make the prequel.
So although the script already exists, a return to it seems likely hereditary-universum far away. In addition to the doubts on Aster’s part, there is no studio associated with the project yet.

One of the most influential horror films
Hereditary is Aster’s feature debut and is seen as one of the most influential horror films of recent years. In the film, a grieving family is haunted by disturbing events.
Return uncertain
Fans have long speculated about additional stories within the world of Hereditary. Aster therefore also seems to keep the door open for a return. The written story would take place before the events of the original film.
