Jason Momoa is no longer attached to the film adaptation of the popular game franchise Helldivers (2027). The film is being developed by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions and is directed by Justin Lin, known for, among others Fast & Furious (2009)-films.
Film remains in production
Momoa was originally cast in the lead role, but has now withdrawn. A reason for his departure has not been disclosed. Sony has now started looking for a new leading actor.
The film therefore remains an important title within the growing series of game adaptations from Sony and PlayStation. The collaboration has already produced titles such as Uncharted (2022), The Last of Us (2023– ) in Twisted Metal (2023– ).

Elite shock forces known as Helldivers battle alien threats such as Bugs, Cyborgs and Illuminate forces attempting to destroy Super Earth’s interplanetary empire.
Successful game franchise
Helldivers is based on the 2015 game franchise of the same name from Arrowhead Game studios. In the game, a group of elite soldiers, Helldivers, must defend the planet Super Earth against aliens. In 2024, the sequel Helldivers 2 was released, which attracted millions of players.
Project remains ambitious despite setbacks
Even without Momoa in the leading role, expectations from Sony and Playstation remain high. It is not yet known when the new cast will be announced, but the film continues to aim for a release on 10 november 2027.
