Pope Leo XIV left Rome on Saturday June 6 for the fourth apostolic trip of his pontificate, for a week-long visit to Spain. The Pope will successively visit Madrid, Barcelona and the Canary Islands archipelago.
Upon his arrival in Madrid, on the morning of Saturday June 6, Leo XIV will go to the royal palace for a courtesy visit to the members of the Spanish crown. He will then continue a series of meetings with the Spanish political authorities, representatives of civil society and members of the diplomatic corps. At the end of the afternoon, he will visit the operators and beneficiaries of the Cedia 24 horas project, a reception center for migrants and homeless people in the Spanish capital, before heading to Lima Square for a prayer vigil with young people.
Mass and meetings

The next day, for his last day in the Spanish capital, the pope will meet Pedro Sanchez, president of the government, at the headquarters of the apostolic nunciature. He will also speak at the Cortes Generales, the national parliament, a first for a pope on the Iberian Peninsula, before heading to the headquarters of the Spanish Episcopal Conference to speak with the bishops. At the end of the day the Pope will preside over a prayer to Our Lady of Almudena, patron saint of the city, in Madrid Cathedral, before going to the Santiago-Bernabéu stadium for a meeting with the diocesan community.
Inauguration at the Sagrada Familia
Pope Leo XIV will then leave Madrid on the morning of Tuesday June 9 for Barcelona. Upon his arrival in the Catalan city, he will preside over the Sext office. In the evening, he will participate in a prayer vigil at the Lluis-Companys Olympic stadium.
Wednesday June 10 in the morning, Leo XIV will visit the Brians 1 penitentiary center, located northwest of Barcelona. From there, he will travel to Montserrat, further north, to preside over the recitation of the rosary in the Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat, a Black Madonna, dedicated to the patron saint of Catalonia. Returning to Barcelona in the afternoon, the Pope will meet with diocesan charities before presiding over mass in the Sagrada Familia basilica. Leo XIV inaugurated on this occasion the Tower of Jesus Christ, just completed, which rises to an altitude of more than 172 meters.
In the Canaries, the theme of migration
The Pope will then fly on Thursday June 11 to the island of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands archipelago. At one of the main entry points to Europe, the Pope’s speech on migrants will be eagerly awaited. Leo XIV will meet organizations working with migrants at the port of Arguineguin, then the clergy in Sainte-Anne cathedral. He will celebrate mass at the Gran Canaria stadium at the end of the day
Friday June 12, the Pope will travel to the island of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. He will interact with migrants at the Las Raices center, then with organizations working for their integration. At midday, he will preside over mass at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, before returning to Rome in the early evening.
