With the 2026 World Cup, you are preparing to follow your 18th World Cup. Is your appetite still intact?
I even seem to like football more as the years go by. I know a day will be great if there is a game to watch in the evening. My first World Cup dates back to 1958: Just Fontaine’s record (the French striker is still the record holder for the number of goals scored in a single edition of the World Cup, with 13 goals, in 6 matches, Editor’s note), the emergence of Pelé… It was absolutely incredible. Twelve years later, when I signed professionally in Ajaccio, I even had Raymond Kopa as a neighbor. It was a time that I loved. But contrary to what many veterans say, I think that the level has continued to improve. The players are always technically stronger, faster, better prepared. Whatever anyone says, modern football is extremely impressive.
