The lawyers of French journalist Christophe Gleizes imprisoned for a year in Algeria announced on Wednesday the rejection of an appeal by the prosecution which “closes” the legal proceedings, opening the way to a possible pardon from the Algerian president.
In a judgment rendered on May 25, the Supreme Court “definitively ruled”: it took note of the withdrawal of Christophe Gleizes’ appeal and “rejected on the merits” the one filed by the prosecution, declared lawyers Amirouche Bakouri and Emmanuel Daoud in a press release.
“The jurisdictional debate having now been closed, the future of Christophe Gleizes now falls under the discretionary prerogatives of the president” Abdelmadjid Tebboune, they added, regarding the pardon of the journalist requested by his family.
