
There is probably a gem of a film on the way starring Florence Pugh. It’s about the film adaptation The Midnight Librarywritten by Matt Haig. The book is a roaring success and has now sold 15 million copies. Several parties are currently extremely interested in the rights to the film and enormous amounts of money are being discussed.
A winner on paper
It’s already looking good for it The Midnight Library. Not only has Pugh agreed to play a role in the film, but director Garth Davis has also confirmed his involvement. Davis is known for films such as Lion (2016), Mary Magdalene (2018) in Foe (2023). In addition, he is currently busy with East of Eden for Netflix, for which he also collaborates with Pugh. Although The Midnight Library has not yet been shot, the project is already being sold at the Cannes film market. Studios there often bid on major film projects before shooting begins. Thanks to Matt Haig’s popular bestseller, Pugh and Davis’ involvement, studios already see enormous potential in the film. According to insiders it seems The Midnight Library currently well on its way to becoming the biggest film deal of this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Alternative lives
The Midnight Library tells the story of Nora Seed, a woman who ends up in a mysterious library between life and death. In the library she gets the chance to experience other versions of her life, lives she could have had if she had made different choices in the past. She slowly discovers what is really important in life and whether she might still have a reason to continue.
The recordings of The Midnight Library are scheduled for early 2027.
