The images are hardly spectacular. Around ten sailors, spread across two boats, face each other in the turquoise waters of the Ayungin Atoll, in the South China Sea. The place is located in the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines but claimed by several neighbors, including China. Chinese coast guard and Philippine military question each other. In the video posted on social networks, we then see them confronting each other with oars and sticks.
