Masculinist influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan will contest their extradition to the United Kingdom, where they are being prosecuted in particular for alleged rapes, their lawyer announced Monday, ruling that their arrest in the United States was “politically motivated”.

American authorities arrested the influencer and his younger brother in Miami on Saturday, as British prosecutors announced new charges against them for rape, human trafficking for sexual exploitation and assault.
The Tate brothers now face 42 charges for Andrew and 17 for Tristan.
“We obviously oppose extradition because Andrew and Tristan are innocent. They never did anything wrong. They should not be extradited for crimes they did not commit,” their lawyer Joseph McBride said after a hearing on the case in a Miami court.
“It’s politically motivated. There is no doubt about it,” he added to journalists.
The lawyer said their arrest came days after the two brothers met in Washington with members of Congress.
“They were walking around the Capitol grounds, and three days later, they found themselves in inmate jumpsuits. Do the math,” he said.
Andrew Tate is one of the leading representatives of the “manosphere”, a network of communities, often online, which combine a caricatured vision of masculinity, deep misogyny and personal development techniques.
He broadcasts his controversial opinions to millions of people on social media, including 10.8 million followers on X.
He and his brother were incarcerated for a few months in Romania, where they lived for several years and were accused of duping several women for sexual exploitation, including minors, before being allowed to leave the country.
In March 2025, the US state of Florida opened a criminal investigation targeting the two brothers. The status of this investigation is not known.
