Netflix will release a new costume drama next month. The streaming service just shared the first trailer for My Brilliant Career (2026), a series adaptation of the novel of the same name. The new Australian Original comes to Netflix next month.
Career as a writer
In My Brilliant Careerbased on Miles Franklin’s beloved Australian novel of the same name, we follow Sybylla. She is a fiercely modern woman with one burning ambition: to become a writer. Even when everything goes against her and her family would prefer her to marry. In this new series adaptation of the classic, Sybylla goes against all the norms of 1900 Australia. She decides to pursue a story that could lead her path to independence. Until she falls in love. Will she get married after all? Or will Sybylla risk everything for a life she has always dreamed of?
Cast
The leading role of Sybylla will be in the Australian series My Brilliant Career played by Philippa Northeast. The cast of the new Netflix Original is completed by Christopher Chung, Anna Chancellor, Genevieve O’Reilly and Kate Mulvany. My Brilliant Career is the work of Liz Doran, who wrote and developed the adaptation. She is joined by screenwriters Sarinah Masukor and Rachael Turk and the new series is directed by Alyssa McClelland and Anne Renton.
