“I like the fact that this pope is returning to tradition,” this American told me. With his wife and their three teenagers, he had come specially from Alaska to Castel Gandolfo. On Sunday July 12, Pope Leo XIV presided over the first public Angelus of his summer vacation. I was there as Vatican correspondent for the Dutch daily newspaper for which I usually work. The place was packed and it was hot, especially for those who live in Alaska.
