China on Friday described as “pure inventions” the comments of US President Donald Trump, who brought up accusations of interference in the 2020 US presidential election in a televised address the day before.

Thursday evening, Donald Trump accused Beijing of being behind the “largest hack of electoral data in history, resulting in the illicit acquisition by China of 220 million voter files”, and of having tried to “manufacture” ballots for his then opponent, Joe Biden.
“The allegations made by the American side are pure fabrications and malicious slander which have long been proven to be baseless,” responded Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a press conference on Friday.
“China has no interest in the US elections and has never interfered,” he added.
“Conversely, the international community sees very clearly who is the one who usually interferes in the internal affairs of other countries,” he said.
“We urge the US side to reflect on its own actions, stop baselessly smearing China, refrain from making China an issue in its elections, and do more to promote China-US relations,” the spokesperson continued.
Donald Trump regularly claims that Joe Biden “stole” his victory in the 2020 election, accusations that have never been proven.
More than 60 legal actions were taken, without revealing any fraud likely to change the result of the election. Even within the Trump administration, officials have repeatedly rejected the allegations.
He announced Thursday evening that he was declassifying documents that he presents as proving his statements.
