
Blogger turned Putin critic arrested
A Russian blogger, long pro-Kremlin but who recently unexpectedly criticized Vladimir Putin and his offensive in Ukraine, was arrested on charges of spreading “false information” about the Russian army, according to state press agencies on Friday July 17.
Ilia Remeslo, 42, was arrested in Saint Petersburg and must be transferred to Moscow, where a “security measure” will be decided on him, such as placement in pre-trial detention or house arrest, according to his lawyer Sergei Badamshin, cited by the Tass agency.
Two dead and eight injured in Russian strikes
Russian strikes on the city of Odessa, in southern Ukraine, left two dead and eight injured overnight from Thursday to Friday, deputy mayor Oleksandr Filatov announced.
In Odesa, two people were killed as a result of Russia’s overnight missile strike on a residential building. Five more people were injured, including three children. “A missile hit a residential building. Unfortunately, two people lost their lives. According to the latest information, there are currently eight injured, including two children,” Oleksandr Filatov, speaking from the scene, said on Telegram. “Residential buildings, a religious building, a nursery school, vehicles and other civil infrastructure were damaged,” he added.
