
There is no more suspense. Andy Burnham, 56, MP for Makerfield, a suburb of Manchester, will be appointed Prime Minister this Monday July 20. As of the deadline of Friday July 17, no other Labor MP has in fact stood as a candidate to succeed Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who resigned from the leadership of Labor since June 22. A rare and seemingly surprising fact, especially for a politician who was neither a member of the government nor a member of the House of Commons before his election on June 18.
