
“Historic”, “a record”, the superlatives from the Élysée rain down on this July 14 military parade, the final one for President Emmanuel Macron. After the spectacular parade of the Chinese army on September 3, 2025, or that, less flamboyant than in past years, of the Russian army on May 9, 2026, it is therefore France’s turn to show its power, in this period of possible return of high-intensity war in international relations. Faced with this rapid and dangerous geopolitical shift, Emmanuel Macron placed his last parade under the theme of the “strategic awakening of Europe”.
