Murder of Rachel

The Witness follows the experiences of Alex and André Hanscombe as they deal with the devastating consequences of a brutal act of violence. When Rachel Nickell was murdered on Wimbledon Common in 1992, André became a single parent overnight. He put his own grief aside and made his son Alex – the only eyewitness to the attack – the center of his world.

As he navigated the relentless media attention and the urgency of an increasingly desperate police investigation, the well-being of his traumatized son became his only concern. This is the story of how a father and son navigated the aftermath of an unimaginable tragedy, from darkness to light.

This Town actor Jordan Bolger stars as the father and Dark Money actor Max Fincham plays the son. Neil Maskell, Wendy-Anne Daloz, Oliver Devoti, Mark Stanley and Kerry Godliman also appear. On the same day that the series is released, Netflix will also release the documentary The Murder of Rachel Nickell (2026), after the same story.
