In the preface to your catalog dedicated to the island of Yeu, Marie de Hennezel speaks of you as a soul catcher. Do you see yourself in this definition?
I believe it is more of a projection based on what it receives from my painting… I am of course sensitive to the soul of places and people. And the island of Yeu is quite a magical place, I draw strength from it to paint. But when I paint, I don’t think about the soul at all. It’s more about being quiet, being entirely receptive to the landscape. The soul of the place or the person is given to me in addition. This is perhaps why the viewer sometimes has the impression of having captured, through my painting, something of the soul of the place.
