
For two weeks, the protests have continued, first defying the soaring mercury, then the heavy downpours of the monsoon. A few hundred young demonstrators camp day and night on the tree-lined path of Jantar Mantar, near an 18th century astronomical observatory, in the heart of the Indian capital. Dedicated to demonstrations, this area is closely supervised by police and paramilitary forces, who are closely monitoring a new political movement: the “Cockroach People’s Party” (Cockroach Janta Party, CJP), a humorous reference to the BJP, the “Indian People’s Party” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
