Oscarwinnares Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl (2015)) has joined the cast ofEnigma Variationsthe new Netflix miniseries based on the bestseller of the same name by André Aciman, the author of Call Me by Your Name. It was previously announced that Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Anna Karenina (2012)) will play one of the leading roles in the series.
A story about love, identity and choices
The series follows Paul (Taylor-Johnson), a man whose life and identity are shaped by the lovers he meets over a decade of life-changing years. The story paints an intimate but compelling portrait of masculinity, sexuality and modern love. At the same time, it asks a universal question: in a world full of endless possibilities, do we actually recognize true love when it presents itself?
Enigma Variations is written by Amanda Kate Shuman (The Wheel of Time (2021–2025)). The direction is in the hands of Oliver Hermanus (The History of Sound (2025)).

Vikander plays Claire
Swedish actress Alicia Vikander takes on the role of Claire, one of Paul’s most important lovers. In the novel, Paul marries her, simultaneously engaging in relationships with both men and women. Claire therefore plays a crucial role in his search for love, identity and connection.
Impressive career
Vikander won an Oscar in 2016 for her role in The Danish Girl (2015) and has since built an impressive career with films such as Ex Machina (2014) in Tomb Raider (2018). She was recently seen in The Wizard of the Kremlin (2025) in which she co-stars with Jude Law.
