The results of the night
Panama – England (0-2): England wins in Panama (2-0) thanks to Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane. Dominant, the Three Lions have not really impressed in terms of play. Their first place pushes them into a part of the table where they could meet Mexico, then Brazil, if they beat the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday in Atlanta.
Croatia – Ghana (2-1): Croatia concluded the group stage of the 2026 World Cup with a difficult victory against Ghana, securing its ticket for the round of 16 and second place in Group L behind England.
Luka Modric’s teammates will face Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on Thursday in Toronto. Already assured of its qualification, Ghana will face Colombia.
Colombia – Portugal (0-0): Portugal, already qualified, had to beat Colombia to finish at the top of Group K, instead Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates had to settle for a flattering draw. First in the group, Colombia will face Ghana, Portugal will face Croatia for a reunion between CR7 and Luka Modric, former Real Madrid friends now in their forties.
DR Congo – Uzbekistan (3-1): DR Congo overthrew Uzbekistan in ten minutes to secure a historic qualification for the round of 16 of the World Cup. In the next round, the challenge will be immense against Harry Kane’s England, still in the capital of Georgia.
Jordan – Argentina (3-1): Argentina continued its virtuous dynamic at the 2026 World Cup against Jordan in a final group match with no stakes, other than stretching the legs of the substitutes and seeing Lionel Messi score, again. The N.10’s tally now stands at six goals in three matches and even nineteen in six World Cup editions.
Algeria – Austria (3-3): A draw was enough for Algeria and Austria to advance to the round of 16 of the World Cup, and this is what happened at the end of a crazy match which delivered them the last two seeds, to the detriment of Iran, the last eliminated.
The Austrians won a second place with a slightly poisonous scent, since it had a major opponent in store for them: Spain, European champion.
Upcoming matches
The 16th round begins this evening in Los Angeles with the match scheduled for 9 p.m. between Canada and South Africa. To continue to chart their course in this World Cup that they are co-organizing, the Canadians will benefit from the return of their captain Alphonso Davies, injured until then.
