
The Mexican Animator Luis De La Rosa Obregón, known for, among other things Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), tragically passed away this week during his visit to the Annecy film festival. Last Wednesday, the 34-year-old filmmaker was hit by a train, a French regional newspaper reported. French police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of De La Rosa Obregón’s death.
Police are investigating
On Wednesday evening, De La Rosa Obregón was reportedly seen walking along the railway near Avenue Aristide-Briand. The train driver tried to warn him by sounding the horn, but to no avail. De La Rosa Obregón was hit by the train. Both the fire brigade and ambulances arrived at the scene very quickly, but could do nothing more. De La Rosa Obregón died on the spot. The filmmaker was quickly identified because he was still wearing the lanyard with his festival pass at the time of the accident.
Tribute tonight
De La Rosa Obregón was behalve Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse also known for his work on Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021) in My Little Pony: De Film (2017). The Annecy International Animation Festival has confirmed that a tribute to Luis de la Rosa Obregón will take place during tonight’s closing ceremony. Artistic director Marcel Jean will reflect on his death and his contribution to the animation world.
