
Four months before the election where he will seek his fourth term, outgoing Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva has recorded some good news: his fight against deforestation seems to be paying off. Passing below the threshold of one million hectares last year, deforestation reached its lowest level since 2019. Particularly in the Amazon, where the data shows a very different reality from the Bolsonaro years (2019-2023).
