Biblical commentaries
Jesus talks about choosing God over money and not worrying! On this World Refugee Day we wish we could have both, and the praise to God and the money to live in Caesar’s world. Let us think of all these people fleeing their country because of poverty and violence, who go through a thousand horrors even here. They need money to move from one shore to the other. They are constantly worried about the enormous difficulties that often prevent them from moving forward. They cannot hear these words of Jesus because they are constantly on the alert looking for a roof, a piece of bread and above all an outstretched hand. Many die on their journey of trials.
In solidarity with them, Matthew addresses those hungry for justice (5.6 + 6.33), those who are hungry to put into practice what Jesus asks of them, with complete confidence. We can then give thanks for all the networks of small and large associations. Their volunteers take time. Christians and non-Christians, shoulder to shoulder, to reduce hunger, the anxiety of the streets, the nothingness of solitude. The path to the Kingdom is dotted with all these hands outstretched towards others, with their handicap, their leprosy, their weariness. Yes, we should worry about them. We have to open our hearts to the Spirit of Pentecost so that he can bring us out of the walls of our fears. Be fraternal.
