
This historic first goes beyond the simple symbol: Saturday June 13, during its first qualifying match against Brazil, the Moroccan team fielded for the first time an XI – the starting players who start the match – entirely composed of players born abroad. From PSG star defender Achraf Hakimi, born in Madrid (Spain), to Ryan Mmaee, striker who was born in Belgium, to central midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, 18-year-old prodigy born in Senlis (Oise) who played in the French youth team, all are celebrated in the Moroccan press as having made “the choice of the heart”, that of the Atlas Lions.
