Netflix has released the official trailer for 23,000 lives (2026). A new German Netflix drama coming to the platform later this summer. The film is based on true events surrounding the Jugend Rettet organization.
True story
23,000 lives tells the story of a young group of people who decide to take action during the refugee crisis. With an old ship and through crowdfunding they try to save the lives of refugees in the Mediterranean. What starts as an idealistic project quickly grows into a complex mission in which moral, legal and personal boundaries are constantly under pressure.

A group of young people set out to rescue refugees in the Mediterranean. But their mission soon tests their understanding of what is right and just.
Strong cast
23,000 lives is directed by Markus Goller and stars Louis Hofmann (Dark (2017–2020), Land of Mine (2015)) and Mala Emde (Köln 75 (2025), 303 (2018)) .
Release date
23,000 live will premiere at the Munich Film Festival and now also has a release date on Netflix. On 17 July the film will be released on the platform.
