
They came to denounce a “hunt for the homeless”. Gathered in front of La Rochelle town hall, around fifty people protested on Saturday June 13 against the application of anti-begging orders taken by the new mayor Olivier Falorni (center left). The municipal police have been instructed to evict homeless people from the city center and the Old Port, in the name of public peace. “We are being taken away from what little we have: being able to beg, having blankets,” lamented Laurent Maurisson, 54, who lives on the street, to AFP.
