The results of the night:
Switzerland – Qatar (1-1): Switzerland missed its debut at the 2026 World Cup by conceding a surprise draw against Qatar (1-1), Saturday June 13 in Santa Clara, in a group B where the four teams have one point after the first day.
The day after the draw between Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina (1-1), Switzerland long thought it would hold on to its victory thanks to a penalty goal from Breel Embolo (17th), but the Qataris offered themselves their first point in the World Cup thanks to a header from defender Boualem Khoukhi at the end of added time (90+ 4th).
Brazil – Morocco (1-1): It was the first shock of the world championship. Morocco, a surprise semi-finalist four years ago, held Brazil, in search of a sixth crown, to a 1-1 draw during the Group C clash at the 2026 World Cup played on Saturday June 13 at MetLife Stadium in New York.
The Moroccans, attractive from the start, opened the scoring with attacking midfielder Ismael Saibari (21st), before striker Vinicius Jr equalized (32nd) for the reactionary Brazilians, who better controlled the debates in the second half without however managing to force the decision.
Haiti – Scotland (0-1): Scotland made its return to the World Cup, 28 years after its last appearance in the final phase, by beating Haiti 1-0 in the first round of the 2026 World Cup (group C), Saturday June 13 in Foxborough (Massachusetts).
John McGinn scored the only goal in the first period (28th) against the Haitians who held up well for their second participation in a World Cup after the 1974 edition in Germany.
Australia – Turkey: (2-0): Australia, thanks to a superb goal per period from Nestory Irankuda then Connor Metcalfe, beat Turkey (2-0) on Saturday June 13 in Vancouver, a rather unexpected authoritarian victory at the 2026 World Cup.
The Australians join at the head of Group D the United States, main co-organizer of the tournament, who also successfully entered the competition by crushing Paraguay the day before in Los Angeles (4-1).
