Very few Netflix films manage to hold viewers’ attention for months, but… KPop Demon Hunters (2025) has achieved something that few titles can. As the animated film prepares for its first anniversary on June 20, the production has now been in the Netflix top 10 for 51 weeks. However, there now seems to be a serious threat to the impressive performance, as the film has dropped to tenth place for the first time.
The perfect combination for success
Kpop Demon Hunters has grown in the past year into much more than a successful animated film. The story about the K-pop group HUNTR/X, who in addition to their music career secretly battles demonic forces, managed to build a huge fan base worldwide. The combination of action, humor, music and colorful animation ensured that the film appealed to a wide audience and remained high in the Netflix rankings for months.

With 51 consecutive weeks in the top 10, the animation is the most successful Netflix film to date. The question, however, is whether the film will last a year, or will the curtain fall at two to twelve? Where the film effortlessly held its own for a long time among new releases Kpop Demon Hunters is now at the bottom of the rankings. However, there is no question of saying goodbye for the time being. In any case, Netflix is going big for the film’s one-year anniversary. Special screenings are organized worldwide, including in the Netherlands. In addition, exclusive merchandise is planned, as well as new soundtrack releases and online events.
