Netflix unveils the trailer for the new five-part documentary series The American Experiment (2026). The docuseries examines the creation of American democracy.
Wide range of voices and perspectives
In The American Experiment features a diverse range of voices, including former vice presidents, politicians, historians, academics and military experts. Interviews with Hillary Clinton, Mike Pence and Al Gore are featured in the series.

“The American Experiment” explores how a nation built on an untested idea continues to grapple with the fundamental contradictions between slavery and freedom, and between individual power and minority representation—and how American democracy has been built, tested, and reshaped over two and a half centuries.
From the American Revolution to the present
The series takes viewers from the American Revolution to the creation of the Constitution and the first presidential term. Both the historical context and contemporary political and social tensions are taken into account.
Historical reconstructions
In addition to interviews and archive material, the series also contains reconstructions of historical events. For example, the American Revolution is brought to life with the help of actors and reconstructions.
