
Why are we talking about a textile crisis?
Slow asphyxiation under a mound of low-end fabrics is the picture painted by the textile waste recovery sector in 2025. Nearly 900,000 tonnes of clothing, household linen and shoes were put on the market in 2024 in France, or 12 kilograms per person per year. And almost 40% more than in 2019, with an increase driven by the boom in online shopping since Covid: the ultra-fast fashion giant Shein has become in 2024 the fashion brand where the French have spent the most money.
