Wild land (2024– ) has become very popular with Dutch television viewers in recent years. The drama series about farm life was widely viewed and was even nominated for the Golden Televizier Ring. Some time ago it was announced that the Dutch series would be expanded in the form of a cinema film! What is known about this?

Waste Land is one of the most watched Dutch drama series of the past year and many viewers praised the AVROTROS title. Some time ago it was announced that the series would be expanded with a film: Wild Ground: A Hot Summer. This cinema film is directed by Johan Nijenhuis and Aram van de Rest. What else is known about it now?
Cast members
Distributor Independent Films announced in a press release that the cast consists of well-known faces from Waste Land. We see Anouk Maas, Hendrik Jan Bökkers and Peggy Vrijens, among others. In A Hot Summer the cast is further expanded with some new characters, played by Juultje Tieleman, Stefania Liberakakis and Lucas Hamming, among others.

Where goes Wild Ground: A Hot Summer over?
A sweltering summer turns life on the Ottink family farm completely upside down when the yard transforms into a chaotic farm campsite. While Grada and Bats fight against the nuisance of rude campers, Snoek seeks adrenaline in motocross. Meanwhile, daughter Britt gets the chance of a lifetime with her band, but she needs the help of her father Dinant. Between the dust, the roaring engines and the heat, family conflicts inevitably come to a boiling point.
Story stands on its own
All characters from the hit series Waste Land also return to the farmland for this film. However, production company Independent Films makes that clear Wild Ground: A Hot Summer is completely self-contained and can therefore also be watched if you have not seen anything from the original AVROTROS series. That makes this film a cinema experience for a somewhat broader audience.
When to see?
Wild Ground: A Hot Summer should be released in theaters on January 28, 2027. Independent Films announced in a press release that filming of the upcoming Dutch film will start this summer. So just be patient.
