Massoud Bakhshi, Iranian documentary director, impressed us a few years ago with his second fiction film, Yalda, the night of forgiveness. He took us behind the scenes of a chilling reality TV show, where a death row inmate tried to obtain forgiveness live from his victim’s family. He returns to his favorite form with this film, a montage of images of his nieces shot from 2007 to 2025, from their early childhood to their entry into university, and delivers a rare testimony of what it is to grow up in Tehran today when we are girls.
