Director James Gunn Gives Fans First Taste of Lex Luthor’s Battlesuit in Upcoming DC Movie Man of Tomorrow (2027) On social media, Gunn shared a photo of actor Nicholas Hoult in the iconic supervillain armor as filming of the film is in full swing.
Lex Luthor goes to war
In the world of DC Comics, Lex Luthor is known for his advanced battle suits, with which he takes on Superman without having superpowers himself. The powerful armor gives him superhuman strength, the ability to fly, protective force fields and an impressive arsenal of weapons.
“Fitting. Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow,” Gunn captioned the image.
Superman and Lex must work together
For Man of Tomorrow James Gunn returns to the director’s chair. In the sequel to Superman (2025), David Corenswet’s Superman has to deal with a new, dangerous enemy: the intergalactic villain Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger. Remarkably, Superman and his greatest enemy Lex Luthor will have to put aside their differences. The two are forced to work together to stop the highly intelligent cyborg Brainiac and protect Earth from an unprecedented threat.

Familiar faces return
Several cast members from the first film also make another appearance. Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific return. In addition, Milly Alcock makes her appearance again as Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl. After starring in the solo film this summer Supergirl (2026), her character also gets a role in it Man of Tomorrow.

New hero makes his debut
One of the most notable newcomers is Aaron Pierre, who makes his first appearance on the big screen as Green Lantern member John Stewart. The character will soon be introduced in the HBO Max series Lanterns (2026) and will from then on be part of the DC cinematic universe.
‘Lanterns’ follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic agents who become involved in a dark mystery on Earth while investigating a murder in the American heartland.
On the silver screen in 2027
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for a theatrical release in July 2027 and promises to be one of the biggest DC films of the coming years.
